Tommy Vietor, who served as an aide to President Barack Obama, is furious with former President Joe Biden and says he doesn’t want to hear from him after revelations that the administration concealed signs of his cognitive decline.
In an episode of “Pod Save America” that aired on Thursday, Vietor and Brian Tyler Cohen tore into former President Biden after his keynote speech this week, where he took swipes at President Donald Trump’s administration for its handling of the Social Security Department, Mediaite reported.
“Listen, I’m grateful to Joe Biden for the things he did, for his decades of service. I don’t want to hear him giving speeches right now. I’m sorry, I know that’s s—-y. I know that’s petty. He doesn’t owe me anything. My opinion doesn’t matter here,” Vietor said, Mediaite reported.
“I don’t want to hear — I’m very mad at Joe Biden,” he said in response to the speech. “So I’ve been reading Jake Tapper’s book about the Biden administration and the steps taken to kind of hide his decline. I can’t get into the details, it’s still embargoed, but it is enraging.”
Cohen offered some praise for the former president’s policies but said that no one should be hearing from him.
“We have a gerontocracy problem in our party, and so the reality is that the last thing we should be doing right now is giving the biggest platforms to the people who really are holding back the party more broadly in a moment where we are desperate for and desperately need generational change,” he said.
“We don’t want to talk about his administration right now,” Vietor said.
“People are pissed. They’re mad about inflation. Democrats are mad at the administration for how it went for Kamala Harris. I get that he’s giving speeches, it’s probably paying the bills, but I don’t wanna hear it,” he said.
The 82-year-old former president used a racist term for black people during the speech that caught the attention of many.
“I was only going in fourth grade,” he said as he remembered being driven to Catholic schoolboy his mom in Wilmington. “And I remember seeing kids going by, at the time called ‘colored kids,’ on a bus go by — they never turned right to go to Claymont High School.”
He said that witnessing black kids not being able to attend schools with white students “sparked my sense of outrage as a kid.”
He went on to attack Trump’s administration over an issue that doesn’t exist.
“Social Security is more than a government program. It’s a sacred promise,” Biden said before he accused Republicans in Congress of being on board with the president.
“Who the hell do they think they are?” the former president said. “I will not go further. I’ll get in trouble.”
He set his sights on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which claimed that it found people in their hundreds still on the Social Security books.
“Those 300-year-old folk getting that Social Security, I want to meet them,” the former president quipped. “I’d like to figure out how they live that long.”
“Hell of a thing, man. I’m looking for longevity,” he said.
In posts on X, the Social Security Administration accused the former president of lying.
“Former President Joe Biden is lying to Americans. Here are the facts,” the post said before listing five key points.
“President Trump has repeatedly promised to protect Social Security and ensure higher take-home pay for seniors by ending taxation on Social Security benefits,” the SSA said.
“The SSA has not permanently closed any field offices and 50% of the technology department has not been laid off,” it said.
“SSA is taking commonsense steps to transform how we serve the public – last month, we spent $16.5 million to modernize telephone services nationwide. We’re developing cutting-edge, AI-powered tools to streamline simple tasks,” the Social Security Administration said.
“A SSA Inspector General report released while Joe Biden was President found $72 billion in improper payments from fiscal years 2015 through 2022,” the SSA said.
“Over 2 million illegal aliens were assigned SSNs in fiscal year 2024 alone,” it added.
